hi, i'm rather new to the vcd making scene. i've made a couple of mpgs into vcds using nero, but that's about it. recently i got a movie that has .vcd as the extention. i tried using nero to convert it and it burns, but my dvd player won't recognize it. i then changed the extention to .mpg but same thing happens. is .vcd even a valid extention? the file plays fine in wmp though so i don't know. . . what do you guys suggest?[/u]

First of all, don't use Nero to convert anything, its much better to use TMPGEnc.Originally Posted by CrispyYams
TMPGEnc can convert AVI,Mpeg to fully complaint VCD's by using one of the available PAL/NTSC VCD templates. You can then use that with Nero to make a VCD.
Where did you get the movie
was it ".mpg.vcd" or something ? if it is a mpeg 1 vcd the extension is usually .dat which can be loaded directly into any of the authoring programs without converting it to anything.
You could also load it into TMPGEnc > Mpeg tools > Merge&Cut > add > "MPEG 1 Video CD" from drop down > output path > name >start.
That would put it back as a .mpg
