  1. hi, i'm rather new to the vcd making scene. i've made a couple of mpgs into vcds using nero, but that's about it. recently i got a movie that has .vcd as the extention. i tried using nero to convert it and it burns, but my dvd player won't recognize it. i then changed the extention to .mpg but same thing happens. is .vcd even a valid extention? the file plays fine in wmp though so i don't know. . . what do you guys suggest?[/u]

First of all, don't use Nero to convert anything, its much better to use TMPGEnc.

TMPGEnc can convert AVI,Mpeg to fully complaint VCD's by using one of the available PAL/NTSC VCD templates. You can then use that with Nero to make a VCD.

Where did you get the movie was it ".mpg.vcd" or something ? if it is a mpeg 1 vcd the extension is usually .dat which can be loaded directly into any of the authoring programs without converting it to anything.

You could also load it into TMPGEnc > Mpeg tools > Merge&Cut > add > "MPEG 1 Video CD" from drop down > output path > name >start.

That would put it back as a .mpg
