  2. Hey, those black bars are there for a reason: keep correct aspect ratio. Do you want the earth all streched up like an egg

  3. Easy,

Get your output into MPEG2 format.

    Hop into FLASK

go into the global edit , and hit preview.

start triming top n bottom till you get just what u want.

save out usign the codec flavour of your choice.

    have a nice day.

You can't crop the bars out without cropping the same amount from the sides otherwise you will lose aspect ratio. By cropping the sides you are going to lose close to %50 of your picture and if there is anything important on either the left or right side then it will be lost since you are not performing an actual pan and scan conversion.

If you really want to do this just use the crop function in your encoder, just about every encoder has this. In TMPGenc it is the clip frame filter.

Other than that the only way to remove the black bars without severely disturbing or distorting your picture is to play it back on a widescreen tv.

  5. Yes i thought about aspect ratio too, so i opened bunch of other widescreen movies in VirtualDub and it didn't have those bars all around. I'll try to do what you said.

If you opened something like a bootleg rip that you downloaded or got from a friend, the bars may have been cropped out because the rip was intended to be played on a computer.

If you opened a DVD2AVI project (or something similar) from an anamorphic DVD those won't have as much black because a DVD player adds the letterboxing automatically for 4:3 TVs, and plays the movie as-is on 16:9 TVs.
