My DVD player will play audio, MP3 and VCD on all the CD-RW discs I've tried in it (Sony, Samsung and various others.) However, the identical material burned onto CD-R is not recognised; it can't recognise anything on the disc.
I want to burn to CD-R for archiving. Is it something about the structure of CD-RW the machine likes, or does anybody know of a brand of CD-R that this machine will play?
I phoned Alba but they said it doesn't play either type. I said oh yes it does, this is not a complaint, but we got into a stuck record routine which ended when I said I'd go back to trial and error as its quicker!
Hope somebody out there can help with this one.

Many older players cannot play CD-R media. The laser/media specs between DVD and CD-RW are similar enough that CD-RW media will often play, but not always. Newer players are designed to support more media types.
