goto www.downloads.com and do a search for Quickvcdplayer and download it, when you have set it up click on file then open select the mpeg file, then the avq file inside the mpeg file then it will play..

You are trying to open a SVCD-file in mediaplayer. That is a non-supported file format.

The best player that I have that plays everything is powerDVD4.0XP..I would send it to you but I have a dialup and the damn file is around 7 - 8 MB...which would take around and hour and half to upload sorry..BUT you can try
Kazaa and search for it there..BUT if you need the serial to unlock it I will send that to you if you want...PowerDVD All The way.... -
I got powerdvd.. appreciate the offer tho
I just didnt want to put PDVD on there because there wasnt a DVD rom hooked up to that machine. I thought it was odd that media player on my HPs would run it but not the compaq. :-> -
Media player wont play this automaticly. Open files...select all files...browse the folders on your vcd and locate the .dat file, this is your movie and newer version of wmp will play this file.

I also can't open my disc from my other computer. When I insert the disc, the indicating light goes off and I can't access the D drive, it keeps telling me to retry or cancel over and over again. Does anybody know why? Is it because I copied my VCD from a DVD/CD-RW drive, and tyring to play it on a normal CD-rom drive? I really need.....

Kilin you don't NEED to have a DVD Rom drive for PowerDVD..unless you ARE playing a DVD but it plays everything...Mpeg 1 Mpeg 2 and plays em good...it also recognizes VCD's or SVCD;s automatically if you have the option enabled....

Gamer does your drive play other CD's besides VCD and SVCD';s if not then you need a new Drive, other than that Im not sure..you could try screwing around with the Drive opitions by Going in my computer and RIght clicking the drive your playing your stuff in..hope it works !!!

Yeah. It really doesn't matter if you have a DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive. The key to playing SVCD's or any MPEG2 files is the MPEG2 codec, which cost developers $$$ to license with their player. Hence, the only way to get it (legally) is to buy a copy of PowerDVD (excellent choice), WinDVD, or just about any software which plays DVDs. Your HP machines probably came with a DVD-ROM drive, along with OEM codecs and a player. And just for giggles, once you do install one of these, Windows Media Player will use its Codec (once it fails to find one of its own, that is).
Rumor has it though, and I seem to have read this on the Microsoft sight somewhere, that the beta of Microsoft Media Player 9, does have DVD playback ability (which inherantly means that it plays SVCD, though with a little guidance from you I'm sure). If you don't mind tempting fate with Microsoft's Beta products, this may be a free ticket. It seems that they're jumping on the bandwagon with video encoding and editing, and from the looks of it, they hitting it pretty hard. But I'd definitely try to get my hands on PowerDVD before I go messing with Microsoft Beta stuff.
