  1. I recently bought a film downloaded off the net in SVCD format. I have a JVC XV-302 player which supports this format, however when I play the disk in the machine it recognises there is a disk there and the digital counter looks as though its playing it back but nothing comes up on the sereen. After fiddling with the remote for a while I decided to check the out the file on the PC and on exploring the cd it turns out that the file is SVCD.avi. Ok so after browsing various sites I eventually end up here and discover that by using theTMPGenc-2 converter I could change the file into something the player would recognise but as usual there seems to be a problem. I bring the file in to the program and tell it output as an an mpeg file(is this right?) but all the tests just show a balck screen. Now I'm no expert and a lot of the jargon is over my head so could someone make this easy for me, and tell me why do the call it SVCD format when in fact it is an avi file. Most of the help I find is for converting too svcd but I want to go the other way. Its so frustrating.......argggg. All I want to do is press a couple of buttons change the bloody file to something my player recognises and not spend days learning everything there is to know about converting. Any help will be appreciated

    Thanks
