This is just something I happened upon, no big deal really, but when copying a DAT from a VCD to my HDD in order to use a small clip from a movie (an old James Mason flick called "A Deadly Affair") in a cheesy short video, I discovered that Ulead Video Studio 6 can open the DAT without first actually converting to MPG (to get the header right) or even changing the file extension to MPG. I figured that it probably could, but I wasn't sure. In any event, it sure is a lot faster to open it on the CD, find the clip, trim the clip out then save that clip (re-mux it actually, no quality loss) than it is to copy the whole thing to your HDD.

As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."
