Help! I purchased a Samsung S221 at my local Best Buy. This DVD player is inexpensive and boasts it can play DVD/VCD/SVCD/CD-R/CD-RW/PictureCD/MP3 on the box. In the Best Buy ad it does not say it can play (s)VCD's and I can't even find the player in the Samsung site. I use Nero 5.5 to burn VCD's and SVCd's using Memorex 700mb/80min CD-R's (spindel, white-face, blue print). I have no problems with DVD's or VCD's at all. They play perfect (didn't try MP3's). When I insert an SVCD, it says 'Loading...' and then shortly after says 'Unrecognized Format' and 'Please insert another disc'. Huh?! The media and burning style seems to be fine for VCD's .... It says SVCD on the box ... Is it me? Any help would be appreciated.

it says on their tech site that the 511 supports svcd but its not mentioned in the tech specs for the 221
not to say it cant but odd its not mentioned ... advertisers like to use a lot of leeway in product descriptions .
lot of features for a 89 - 120$ dvd player though .. -
If you saw the S221 on the manufacturers site, please post a link. I couldn't find it in their listing or searching for it. Anyway...I know the SVCD's should work. I dl bin/cue images form IRC or make my own with DVD2SVCD. They are compliant and bunred in standard format. They also work on several of my friends DVD players.

almost all says that svcd works. -
Looks like i'm screwed.
I know my CD-R media works
I know my sources are compliant MPEG streams
I know Nero is burning it right
I know it says SVCD on the box
I know 8 million ppl have said it works on their model
What I dont know why this always happens to me...
So far I'm 0 for 2. Bought a Mintek 1600 and a Samsung S221 because I read here they play SVCDs and both haven't. -
The listing for the Samsung S221 says the follow:
DVD-SVCD, SVCD MPEG2 on DVDR/W support
Does this mean it will play SVCD MPG files burned as a data-disc?
If you try to put SVCD content onto a DVD in a DVD-authoring program (I use DVDit! PE 2.5) it just converts it or tells you it is not DVD-compliant MPEG. So what does that quote actually mean. Any help is appr˘qted. -
Just in case anyone cares:
The player is now playing SVCD's successfully. I changed the Compatibility settings of the SVCD to MPEGAV as the name of the video directory and EntrySVD as the Entries.SVD File ID Type.
