Ok, hi all!

I didn't know exactly where to post this topic so just put it there!

I search through this forum about hardware requirements but found various replies and some are discordants.

So i would like to ask this question, regarding the fact i intend to buy a new comp.

I know 2 peoples with similar configuration: Athlon XP 1800, 256 MO DDR and XP 1800 512 DDR.

It seems that the 512 Mo DDR encode vob to divx in around 3.5 hours for a 2 pass with vdub as it takes around 5-6 hours for the 256 DDR. So basically, it means the more memory you have, the faster it goes... but!

I was just wondering if it so true! I mean i can easily understand that at , some point memory can increase the speed in the way it bring data to the cpu but i suppose there's a limit! Considering this, could someone can reply to this following questions?
  • For a XP 2200, what would be the best bet in term of memory? is 512 DDR enough? Will be there a big difference than with 1024?
  • does the same pattern apply for the various process like ripping/encoding to divx, to vcd or svcd?
  • does someone has a kind of grphic that show the best rate between CPU/Memory?

Moreover, if someone could correct this enumeration...

Divx encoding: it use max memory / max cpu

(S)VCD encoding from Divx: average memory / max cpu

SVCD encoding from Vob: average memory / max cpu

thanks for the reply
