  2. Are you sure you got all the codecs installed (get Nimo Codec Pack from the Tools section on your left)? It might also be XviD Avi that most people currently are having problems with when loading into TMPGEnc. And no, you cant play Avi files on standalone DVD player yet (although you CAN burn them onto a CD if you want to) - you need to encode them to Mpeg1 (VCD) or MPEG2 (SVCD) to play on DVD player (standalone).

I'm assuming here that your AVI files play OK on your PC, if so then you already have the codecs.

TMPGEnc does have difficulties using some codecs, I have hit this problem many times, but the way I get around it is to open the AVI in VirtualDub (which doesn't have problems with the codec) and 'frameserve' the file to TMPGEnc. This way TMPGEnc is opening a 'pure' video file - no codecs needed. Give it a try.

    To frameserve with VirtualDub..
    1. Open the AVI file in VirtualDub.
    2. Select 'File' -> 'Start frame server'.
    3. Press 'Start'.
    4. Give it a name such as 'test.avi' and press 'Save'.
    5. The Franeserving window now sit and wait.
    6. Now open the just created 'test.avi' file in TMPGEnc and you should be able to encode as normal.
