With CQ you have no way to tell what the final size will be. Just take a shot with a lower CQ or MAX bitrate or just use 2-pass with the average being what your bitrate calc spit out.

Usually it's more like 9 - 12 hours for me and the file is too small. Anyways, always do a test with a brightly lit or action scene for a duration of 1 - 2 minutes and check the file size at the end of the encode. You can then extrapolate to see what your final file size should be. If you use a dark scene or one with little movement, then the file sizes will appear to be smaller since these scenes use the lower bitrate settings. CQ is tricky to play with but looks great if done right...

  4. a rough rule of thumb for CQ is:
    CQ86-1hr
    CQ82-1hr to 1hr15min
    CQ78-1hr15min to 1hr30min
    CQ74-1hr30min to 1hr45min
    CQ70-1hr45min to 2hrs

Remember, this is very rough so it depends on the type of movie (action etc).....but its worked pretty good for me.

  6. Thats on 1.
I personally never go below CQ78 because the deterioration in quality becomes evident to me below that point.
