  1. I cannot for the life of me figure out why this is happening. I have successfully ripped a DVD to Mpeg2. When I play the Mpeg2 on PowerDVD it works and plays flawlessly. However when I burn the Mpeg2 onto CDRW as a SVCD it has alot of Green Blobs, Distortions, artifacts and Sound Pops. I first thought it might just be my TV Top DVD Player so I put the SVCD into PowerDVD and it played just as horribly!

I'm recording on Memorex CDRW's at 2x. I have attempted to Rencode them using TMPGENC but I really don't think it's an Encoding issue because the source Mpeg Plays perfectly from HD. It's after I burned it to CDRW that it flakes out.

    Any suggestions?

    THanks!

PowerDVD is a bad choice since it does not support SVCD's.

Sounds like corruption. I've had chepo media do that for me too. Are you sure that your DVD player supports cd-r and cd-rw?

So, what are you using for burning the SVCD? Could it be Nero, that reencodes the MPEG before burning?

  4. I'm using Nero 5.5.9 something. It's the newest one they have and when I drag the Encoded Mpeg2 over to the Box in Nero it looks it over and doesn't complain that it needs any further encoding.

My DVD player does play SVCD's just fine. This is the first time It started with all the problems and I originally thought it was the player. I know you guys are always telling people to see how it plays on the PC. If it plays fine on the PC it's the DVD Player. So I did that with the same SVCD and it had the same exact Problems, Artifacts, Sound Pops, distortion, etc. THis lead me to verifying my source was free from Corruption so I played the Mpeg2 straight off the HD and it was Perfect!. I did a Full 40min Format on my CDRW and reburned it and it was the same story.

The only thing I haven't tried is burning to a CDR. My DVD Player likes CDRW as well as any brand CDR. I just figured it wouldn't make a difference since CDRW's are likely to be better read on a DVD Player than a CDR.

As usual, I suggest trying VCDEasy for authoring/burning. You ought to give it a try...

snowmoon - As the SVCD looks equally bad on the PC as on the stand alone, the DVD is not the issue...

  8. Thanks Guys.. I'd certainly be willing to give VCDEasy a try and let ya know what I come up with.

FWIW Snowmoon my DVD player is a JVC XVS502SL and I'm burning at the lowest Nero Speed I can possibly select which I think is 4x. Might be 2x I'll have to verify.

Since PowerDVD does not support SVCD I would not make that conclusion.

Folks, I can't think of one good thing to say about Memorex media except that it is usually on sale. I have more Memorex coasters than I care to admit to. My comments refer to their CD-Rs. I'm just assuming that the quality of their CD-RWs is similar.

  11. Are you sure PowerDVD doesn't play SVCD? It certainly seems to work for me at least.

I'm running the latest version of PDVD and it says on their website:

    Plays:
MP3, CD, VCD, SVCD Multi-channel Playback New

I select from Nero that I'm creating a new SVCD and then I switch it to that User Mode (From the Express Mode). THen I Drag my Source into the project window and it scans the file and then it's ready to burn.

Everything else that I put on the Memorex CDRW's has played perfectly.

    ???

PowerDVD 4.0 XP does support SVCD, but not subs
Even with version 3 you could play SVCD's or CVD's in correct
ratio by using the file selector.

  13. mats.hogberg,

    Thanks for Suggesting VCDEASY! :P

I can't believe how Awesome that progam is and my SVCD's play flawlessly!. Not even a sound pop or the slightest distortion. Simply perfect!

I might go back and reauthor some others with VCDEasy that had some slight glitches.

This is my first DVD Rip and aside for the minor difficulty with the playback and that being easily fixed with your suggestion I have to say I'm pretty pleased!.

    Thanks again!

    Brian.

  14. try burning on cdr and not cdrw.

i had the same effect after using a cdrw a few times,
i cant explain it,but it seems the cdrw i used was just a bad one.
    it was "Basf".
i tried it on a cdr media and it worked like a charme.

in any way, whay spend more money on a cdrw?
if your going to keep the movie anyway, just burn it on a cdr.
HELL AINT A BAD PLACE TO BE
