Considering how much trouble with the audio sync I've had while trying to edit out commericals in a MPEG1 file, I'm curious as to which file format is the best to record in so that you can edit out stuff without having audio sync problems in the first place?
Is it...
1. MPEG1?
2. MPEG2?
3. MPEG4?
4. AVI?
5. Other (please state)
So, which is the best format to edit?

There is probably no general rule. I have been desperate with SVCD and had few (and no, since started to use Womble) problems with DVD. Both are MPEG2. There are many video formats, that have .avi extensions. But generally lossy VBR formats generate more problems. Another and more important thing is software.

That might no be best to record in, but that is the list of the easiest to edit. -
I capture everything in MJPEG so I can edit to exact frames with little hassle.
mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 both have I frame only modes that ( although they make the files much larger ) allow for frame accurate edditing.
