  1. I plan to upgrade my old Sony desktop PII 350, 320 MB RAM. I do occasional video encoding and it takes forever. Encoding a movie can take 15-45 hours depending on the quality desired.

I'm looking at the new emachines T2200:

L7VMM2 Motherboard (266 FSB); Athlon XP 2200+; VIA KM266 Chipset; 512 MB DDR RAM (PC2100); S3 SavagePro DDR Integrated Video (AGP video card upgradeable); 100 GB (7200 rpm w/2 MB) HDD; 40x12x48 CR-RW; 16x DVD; 56k V.92 SmartLink Fax Modem; 10/100 Integrated Ethernet; 6 USB 2.0 & 3 Firewire ports; Win XP, Power DVD 4, etc.

All for $750. I know emachines is not Sony, Dell, IBM, HP Gateway, etc. but comparable computers from those guys are several hundred more, if not double. Any opinions?
