Just because it plays on your PC, does not mean much. When you made the Mpeg 1 what did you use ?. If you used Nero to convert a AVI, this is probably your problem.

Don't use Nero to convert anything. Load all AVI's into TMPGEnc then load a VCD template, and click start. If the output it too large you need to split it to fit on 2 disks. Those Mpeg 1 files can then be used with Nero.

Also make sure you use good quality CDR

  3. First I assume that you download music video for internet or P2P. You have to make sure that all files are playable in your stand alone player. Why? becuz they are been captured/encoded by different groups or ppl then they might not use the same setting. You have routine to check before burning VCD.

    1. Check if you dvd player can play XVCD ( alot of music vids files been encoded with XVCD setting)
    2. Check resolution of each vidz at least you should have std resolution(352x240 for NTSC, 352x288 for PAL) if you see any vids that come with 320x240 then you have to re-encode that file.
3 Check if those file are encoded with mpeg1. Some vidz are mpeg2 but they use the same ".mpg" as mpeg1 so you'd better make sure.

How to check? you can load mpeg1 into v-dub and check all info. If you have PowerDvd you can check if those files are mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 (right click and choose Info.)

I have sometime encounter with some vidz which are in the group that can play on my APEX (APEX can play XVCD but only for 3-5 mins) but after I burnt to VCD it became freeze or un-watchable. I solved this problem by multiplex those file again in TMPGEnc and re-burn to VCD which most of the time come out okay.
NOTE. if you vidz come with 320x240 only method you can solve is re-encode
