I've been trying to use QT's "Export" feature to export the new Two Towers trailer to AVI and then encode to SVCD. Quicktime won't allow me to save the file in any other format. Any thoughts on a workaround for this?
Thanks....

i guess you're talking about the "full" screen trailer with the jpeg borders.
the problem is .....the jpeg borders. there is nothing you can do except use the smaller resolution trailers without this boarder.
this a new security feature in qt movies. it doesn't even show up in internet explore temp folder. so if it would have been "copy protected",which means no saving, beleive me you want find it on your computer. but i'm sure someone with enough interest in qt trailers will solve this in the future.Where I walk, I walk alone. I suspected as much. I had no problems with the older LOTR and Star Wars trailers that included the cheesy JPEG borders, I just deleted the tracks before exporting to AVI.
I'm downloading the large res trailer now. I'll update if I'm successful. I'm also going to try an older version of QT. I was using QT 6.
Has it really come to this? Even advertisements are now copy-protected? I'd just like to watch it on my 61" Sony via SVCD, not pirate the damn thing. How can you steal something that's free?
Great work New Line! -
it is horrible. just today i was going through my usual channels to see if i could save this to. i just wanted to experiment with some new encoding settings. i first found this out trying to save the new startrek trailer with the new borders. that failed. i'm using qt 6 pro also, so if you solve this with another version, please respond back and let us know.

ASFRecorder will cap all windows media streaming stuff
for QT you can look at source of page and you will streaming url like this :
src="rtsp://a512.q.kamai.net/7/512/49/38e3b8ca/stream.qtv.apple.com/channels/sony/rtsp/033000/jamiroquai_supersonic_56.mov"
strip off everthing before "stream" so you have this url :
stream.qtv.apple.com/channels/sony/rtsp/033000/jamiroquai_supersonic_300.mov
that works . or if you still can not see the source - use netvampire i am told .. -

Eureka!!!
I finally got it.
MOV2AVI will export the video. However, there's what I think are JPEG images at the top and bottom of the frame that causes TMPGEnc to spit up. Not even VV3 recognizes the AVI. I finally adjusted the Source Range by 4 seconds to clip the images, and then set a custom size (720x304) to crop the top and bottom images. I then encoded a video-only stream within TMPGEnc. It worked like a charm.
I then used Sonic Foundry to divvy up the separate channels for use with Soft Encode. I had a few sync issues, but figured them out and I now have the trailer at full res with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio!
The results are incredible. TMPGEnc did an awesome job of scaling the frame. The video output is very clean with great color balance. The audio is SUPERB. Get Soft Encode immediately. It's easy to use and provides excellent results. Needless to say rip exceeded by greatest expectations. And all of this on an Apex AD-1500.
Keep in mind this is the FULL SCREEN version of the trailer that is save protected. It's resolution is 640x272 compared to the 480x200 "Large" version. The higher resolution really does make a difference when stretched onto a 61" Sony RP.
BTW, the final DVD ISO was around 580 MB. The original QT was only 40 MB. I found that interesting.
I'm re-encoding the video stream now at anamorphic resolution (720x400). I'm going to try out my progressive scan Toshiba. It only reads Princo brand DVD-Rs and I have only one left. We'll see how much the anamorphic compression improves the picture.
