  1. I have a Liteon 163D dvd reader that I use to rip dvd's to my hard drive. I recently had a bad crash and decided to reinstall Windows XP. However, since doing this, the Liteon will only rip at 1x! Any ideas?

I've tried removing in Device Manager and rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling DVD software, updating the ASPI drivers with Force ASPI, but nothing.

When I rip in Smartripper, even when I select ASPI it's only 1x and shows no check in the ASPI box when ripping.....

  2. In Device Manager, click on ATA/ATAPI Controllers.

Select Secondary IDE channel (As you should never have a optical
drive on the same channel as the HD I take it you have it here)

Select advance setting, Is "DMA if available" selected ?

If yes but it still says PIO mode on current transfer mode,
when you had to many read error and WinXP will only reset this
if you take the drive out and put it back later.

If aspicheck says your aspi layer is okay then go to device manager and right click on the IDE controller channel that controls your DVD drive. Under properties, advanced settings select DMA if available. You should really do this for all your IDE drives/channels although I have seen nero quit burning if DMA mode is turned on for an older CDRW. Worth a try.

  4. I've got a Pioneer DVR104 on primary master (set to PIO as it doesn't like DMA), an AOPen CDRW 402010 on primary slave set to DMA, and the Liteon is on secondary as master, and is set to DMA.

My mobo has a RAID controller, which has all my hard drives including the two booting OS drives (98 & XP).

I used check ASPI and it says they're OK, and when Smartripper starts reading the drive, the very first text is ASPI available, but then when ripping it doesn't show a tick in the ASPI box. DVD Decrypter also only rips at 1x, even when I try using the other drivers in the options settings.

I downloaded the latest Adaptec ASPI drivers and have installed them, but it's still the same.

It worked fine before so I can't understand it. It's very wierd and damn annoying!
