  1. I've got this MPG file, which I can't open in Virtualdub or TMPGEnc. I've get a synchronisation error in virtualDub, and a cannot open or unsupported error in TMPGEnc.
I can open the file in DVD2AVI, and see it, but I can't save it like it's says in the convert part of VCDhelp/convert.

    PLZ help TIA

  2. Is it mpeg-1 or mpeg-2?
Virtualdub will not open mpeg-2 files.
TmpGenc (most recent versions) require one of a small number of specific mpeg-2 codecs be installed in order to open mpeg-2 files. Use search or look at TmpGenc site to find which ones are supported, (PowerDVD I think is one).

    Hope this helps

This is the normal error you get when trying to load a Mpeg 2, which Vdub does not support.

If your using a Free TMPGEnc V 2.55 or less, you can load it provided your 30 days are not up, Any newer versions, or the TMPGEnc Plus 2.58 will require 1 of 3 supported Mpeg 2 filters, the most popular provided with Power DVD 4.

    For Free TMPGEnc
    http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/encoding_plugin.html

    Power DVD 4
    http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/download/dl_file.jsp?dl_id=1

    Or search Kazaa

Also make sure you check this in TMPGEnc

    Select options > environmental settings
    click the VFAPI plug-in tab
right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4
