The only MPEG decoder/encoder I HAD on this system was POWERDVD, and my video was very jerky, now I downloaded the ELECARD player and its codec and it is not jerky anymore...but powerdvd is still jerky...how can I delete all my old mpeg2 codecs and use elecard for playing and encoding? I dont want that other garbage on my system...

  2. Well, PwerDVD does not install a codec per se, it uses it's own internal decoder. This is not a codec for use with the Directshow component of Windows so it will not effect any encoding you may try or playback using any player other than PowerDVD. What will happen is that Windows will use the Elecard codec for all Directshow compatible players while PowerDVD will still use its own decoder, as will WinDVD, which uses a similar solution.
In fact, I have the Elecard codec, PowerDVD XP, WinDVD 4 Plus, the ATi File PLayer, DVD Player, and VCD Player, Zoom Player, Global DivX player, The Playa, RealOne Player, Quicktime Player, WMP 9, and the EO Video Player all installed and I can see the little Elecard symbol in the top right hand corner of the display when playing an MPEG2 file using any player except WinDVD and PowerDVD, so I know this works fine.

There is no way that I know of to force PowerDVD to use the Elecard codec for decoding rather than its own internal decoder, so if you like the player, but hate the choppiness, I think you're out of luck unless you have yet to try the latest version PowerDVD, which MAY solve your problem.

    Good Luck,
    Prospero
