MPEG2'S LOOK AND SOUND EXCELLANT BUT.... PLZ DO NOT IGNORE!!

To begin with thanks for taking the time to see what my problem is.

On to my problem/question. I finally ripped my first DVD and everything looks and sounds excellant!!. Now when I go to burn a SVCD with nero, everything runs smooth with no problems. Here is the kicker....when I put the SVCD on my DVD player the audio is off! I mean really off! What gives?? Everything was done with no problem and just like I was supposed to. As a matter of fact, here is my DVD rip info to help in getting my answer or better yet a solution. Any help or advice would be appreciated! Thanks In Advanced! :P

my dad has the same problem with his akai dvd says it plays svcd, and it does no problems but with no sound, he seems to believe that the player has not got decoder on board to cope with the sound, maybe its the same problem with yr dvd player

You don't make it clear by what mean by 'the audio is off' - do you mean you can't hear it or is it distorted?

Either way your specs show that the final audio has been encoded at a freq of 48000 - there is another recent post on this site that talks about using 48000 for SVCD - the standard is 44100 - so it could be that your DVD player will not accept the non-standard 48000 for SVCD playback. It's worth investigating.

2) ac3. audio stream : does it in fact contain audio? Some rip's produce
silent .ac3 outputs unless stream ripping is enabled and a NON DTS audio track is selected.

Ok I agree with you on this. But what can done?

It does contain audio. The two mpeg2 files I have on my hard drive, play perfect!! So the answer to "does it contain audio?" is "yes"

So my question is how can I possibly fix this? I tried to redo it with Ulead DVD MovieFactory and not only does it make the file 180 MB bigger, it also comes with the video and audio mismatch.

Ok by "off" what I mean is the audio/video synch. It looks like I am watching one of those old "kung fu master theater" movie. You know, the audio seems to have a delay in it.

Do you think If I demultiplex it and remux it at the correct audio freq. I might be able to salvage it? I guess I have nothing to lose and something to gain huh? Either way, I'm gonna look into what you said.

De-mux your MPEG2 file, load the extracted audio into TMPEGenc, set the sampling rate to 44100, and encode. Then re-mux w/ bbMPEG.
If you still have a sync problem, experiment with the 'Startup Delay' setting in bbMPEG.

Thanks Gargoyle! I will do just that! It just bums the shit out of me that my first rip would come out sounding and looking really good on my hard drive but when made into SVCD's, they sucked big time! Oh well, I guess I really couldn't expect too much for my first rip.
