Hi All,
I am using DVD2AVI, to setup for TEMPENC the dvd is 16:9 but when I convert it, it is full sceen, not letterbox.
When I place into TEMPENC and try to convert to MPEG it is still FULL SCREEN.
How do I get Letterbox effect in TEMPENC as I have gone into setup and have changed it to 16:9 which is letterbox BUT still comes out fullscreen.
Thanx

In the "Video" tab pick "4:3 Display" for "Aspect Ratio.
In the "Advance" tab pick "16:9 display" for "Source Aspect Ratio". And for "Video Arrange Method" pick "Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio)" or "Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio 2)".

Can someone tell me the difference of using the 4:3 display compared to the 4:3 NTSC display option in TMPGEnc. I always use the 4:3 or 16:9 NTSC display when I encode from NTSC DVD's but have seen that a lot of people simply use the "display" only settings.

Try this
Source aspect Ratio = 16:9 (NTSC or PAL)
Image Positioning Method = Full Screen (keep aspect ratio) or Fit to frame ( perserve aspect ratio) for old version.
To scottremel. I sometime use 4:3 display only when I convert from avi with 4:3 type of resolution such as 320x240 and use 16:9 display with wide screen type avi movie (most of the time I use 1:1).
If you rip from NTSC DVD, you'd better go with 4:3 NTSC or 16:9 NTSC which will give you the right aspect ratio than 4:3, 16:9 display. -
