    Hi there,

First of all, I'm new at this so please don't bite my head off if this is a dumb question. Here we go:

I'm planning on getting an Apex AD-1500 player since I use SVCD's alot. It's also cheap and I like the "File Browse" feature. The trouble is I live in Sweden (PAL/220VAC/REG2), and I can't find the player anywhere in europe. So most likely I'd need to order one from the states, wich means NTSC/110VAC/REG1.

Now, the AC is pretty easily solved, and possibly the region aswell if I can get a reghack. But what about the output format? Will the DVD player always output NTSC, or maybe NTSC with NTSC discs and PAL with PAL discs, or can I tell it how to output?

    I'd really appriciate some pointers.

    Later!

    Hello Hamlet,

I see Apex players all the time here in the US. I think it's fair to say you get what you pay for. I don't believe the format conversion is that good based on what I've read.

I have a Philips Q35 which has as it's closest cousin in Europe the Q40 I believe. This player supports both PAL and NTSC. I have the film Ronin in R1 and R2 and visually it is hard to tell the difference.

Many people have good things to say about Malata players when it comes to format conversion. Sampo and Daewood have many followers too.

For a bit more money, there is also Skyworth but it's hard to find.

    Cheers,
    Tony

  3. The Apex 1500 lets you select an NTSC, PAL or a MULTI TV. My understanding is that it will play on any of those TVs, PAL or NTSC DVDs (provided you have region hacked it with a region free firmware or a modchip).
