  1. ive just finished dowloading a movie, and its in avi format(because i wanted teh quality) but when i put it in TMPEGenc it says the audio is not supported or cannot open it. so i tried to use virtual dub to getteh sound file off it. when i attempted to save it, it says "ACM failed to suggest audio decompression format"i fiddled with it a bit but i still cant get TMPEGenc to open the avi sound files, or virtual dub to save the file as a propper wav so i can use it in TMPEGenc. can someone please help, if not give me some advice. thanks.

    As usual in these circumstances:
    • DL and install the Nimo Codec Pack Lite.
      If above doesn't work, go for the full Nimo codec pack, but run AdAware after install, as you get some spyware in the bargain that AdAware removes.

    If this doesn't work, you're in for some serious trouble, like a broken AVI.

  3. If you can play the movie with sound im WMP try the following:

    Open the avi in virtualdub.
    Select Audio-> direct stream copy
    Select File-> save as wav

    Now you have a copy of the audio in a seperate file which you need to convert to uncompressed PCM. To do this you can use Headach3e or BeSweet (both available from to tools section I believe). Use this uncompressed wav file as the audio input during encoding to mpeg.

    Hope this helps

  4. thanx both of yas for your help. i ended up usings bugsters idea and saving the file from virtualdub, but when it was saved, it didnt have an extension, so after a bit of searchin on the net i found this site www.wavzbak.com/help/hlp2.html , and it gave me the idea to open it in windows sound recorder and sav it as a wav, probably not the most advanced way to do it but it worked so im happy thanks again for all your advice (by the way, the tip that i used is at the bottom of that page)
