If this happens for every MPG you play, I don't know what could be going on. You might try a different player, like Zoom player (excellen/free/powerful). Can you still cut and paste these files that will not play in WMP? I'm wondering if something is happening that is not allowing you access to these files with the file system of Windows (happens sometimes, REALLY annoying)
Let me know how it turns out

this happends sometimes when you install or uninstall a program that modifies the directshow filters. i use to get this problem all the time when i use to experiment with a lot of new software. i never found a fix. so i make sure i do two things.
1 install media player first, i actually just started this since wmp 9 came out
2 only install software that you know you need and that you plan to keep installed.
i usually reinstall windows(from backup) once maybe twice a month sinse i like that "store bought response" that you get after a fresh install. but when i was trying out all those different type of software, i would get so frustrated with media player that i was reinstalling one or two times a week.
