I am trying to capture a low generation source vhs tape. The tape quality is fine - its just a copy of a copy of a copy ... I have read up posts here that explain why these present problems with high frame loss (and thats what I get - where with normal vhs captures I have no problems) and suggest that a TBC is the only real potential answer. So I have borrowed a 'video enhancer/stabliliser' (Disck Smith brand) from a friend to give it a try -- I think that this is a TBC of some sort (but perhaps I'm wrong). I've connected it up and it has 2 dials on the front. The 1st is labelled as PEAK FREQ and has 4 settings: flat/3.0/2.5/2.0 and the 2nd is labelled as HI PEAK and can be set anywhere between 0 thru 10. But I have no instructions. I've tried starting up VirtualDub and capturing and then just flipping all settings to see if the frame loss decreases/stops but it doesn't appear that simple. So my first question is what is the neutral setting and then what is the recommended procedure for trying to use a TBC to eliminate/reduce frame loss? Thanks in advance ...

Many "video enhancers" are just macrovosion strippers and will do nothing to help reduce frame loss.
