I am trying to use AVIIO to cature through my Canopus ADVC100, as it has a scheduler for timed recording. I am using Win XP pro, but it will not preview and does not appear to capture. the only capture settings I can use are dvsd (for DV i suppose, which is all I want to do) and one other dv...something. Is it possible to use this app to capture to DV through the ADVC100. It shows up under capture devices...

    Thanks

  2. @pb. I think your problem is actually hardware related. Last time I checked AVI_IO works only with older types of capture cards that used Video-For-Windows based capture drivers. Your PC details listed as having Windows XP & a Firewire card, which use WDM drivers for video capture.
Your best bet would be to go for a program suited for Win2K/XP based capturing, look in the tools section,or other threads, but I believe IUVCR is recommended.

The maker of AVI_IO also makes DV_IO specifically for capturing DV. I believe AVI_IO can do it too, but their are many subtle things that need to be done. Did you follow the webpage. Requirements are things like to start playing before you open AVI_IO, don't turn off till done.

Thanks for the replies, I will try DV_IO, as I already have a NLE (Vegas Video 3) I just wanted something to capture TV at scheduled times. I did read the AVIIO web page, but the suggestions do not help.

    Thanks again.

I looked at the AVI_IO web site and cannot find DV_IO, is there such a thing?? I tried IUVCR, it works but no audio, it does not seem to have the ability to use the audio in the DV stream?? Its expecting a seperate audio stream via a sound card.

Anyone know of a simple capture app that has a timer and can capture from a DV device?? I don't know if PowerVCR or any other program can??

Are you saying that you want to CAPTURE from the DV device?
...but not FIREWIRE it to HD???

If your goal is to Capture from your DV cam, via S-Video or
RCA (compisite) then yes, you can, and again, w/ AVI_IO.
I'm assuming all you want is to capture the hours worth.
    Anyways, just open AVI_IO and:
    * File/Capture settings
    * click [x] and fill in times, [00]:[00]:[00]

Unless you mean a schedular, or something fancy like that,
and that you can start/stop at various hours of the day.
Then, no, AVI_IO is not for you.

I haven't seen any schedular for DV though. Besides, it's
probably due to the SLOW startup and stoping in DV transfering.
And, it probably wouldn't be as accurate, but then again, that
really doesn't matter so much anyways.

No, you misunderstood. I already have Vegas Video 3 which captures DV to my HDD. All I wanted was a small capture utility that would capture th DV from my ADVC 100, like other digital VCR programs. Yes, I mean't scheduler. I cannot find this DV_IO, does it exist??, will it do the job??

The following page states the status of AVI_IO and DV http://www.nct.ch/multimedia/avi_io/avi_io_misc.htm#DVboards

AVI_IO is a good program but support is rather bad. Your promised a major update when you register but I have been registered for 2 years and received no major updates. The author does not seem to be putting much development into his product I have suggested things like variable buffers for video and audio but alas nothing been implemented.

You might not get any preview when capturing from DV but it will work. To get preview you might need mainconcept DV codec.

DVIO is a little APP a student has hacked together from some Microsoft sources it can be found at http://www.carr-engineering.com/dvio.htm it needs some development like multiple file support i.e. OpenDML standard but if you give the author some good encouragement he might oblige.

I tried IuVCR and it works, I can capture to DV using the Main Concept or MS codec, but no audio. The audio in DV is integrated, can I do this with IuVCR, I could not see any options to set up the audio for a DV stream. There is no audio when the video is previewed, and I don't want to seperate it from the ADVC100, as it has audio/video lock.

    Any suggestions.

Oh, and I looked at the DVIO app, its only a capture tool, no scheduler.

    Thanks
