  1. Hi,
I've ripped a few DVDs using smartripper 2.8 and DVDx2.0 in the VCD format (mpg1) and all has been well. Last time I tried the super VCD format to see teh quality and was amazed how much better it was, however my copy had two problems:
    1. the screen (letterbox movie) "jumps" up and down (or is it flickers?) by a couple of lines vertically constantly, and
    2. the sound cuts out for a split second every 2 seconds or so.

the mpg1 files from the same vob copies play fine.
    here are the particulars:
    DVD player Apex AD660
DVDx 2.o settings all default except for the following:
    input settings
    audio/video synch checked
    ouput framerate 23.976 NTSC
    Detect progr 24Hz checked
    enforce 24 Hz checked
    deinterlace filter NONE
    output settings:
    video bitrate 2376
    audio bitrate: 224

Please note that the mpg1 files made with exactly the same settings worked fine!
also the same MPG2 files played on my PC, play fine without the flickering or the audio interrupts, however, the audio is out of synch with the video slightly!
Also, I do not use a VCD compliant authoring software. Simply burn the mpg files onto a CD and my Apex AD660 reads the files as MP3 and plays them fine! I am afraid this may be where the problem is (but I am hoping someone tells me otherwise!)

    thanks for the help.
sVCD really is worth getting up an extra time to change the CD

  3. thanks.
putting hte deinterlace on helped. The video "flicker" is much better. Although it is still there, but much less pronoounced.
However, this did not help at all with the audio cutting out for a split second every few seconds (not at regular intervals).
Any other suggestions as to what I can try?
    thanks!
