Burning over a network

I think this is the right forum for this question so I will ask here.

I have a burner on one computer networked to this computer. The CD-RW on the remote computer shows up in "My Computer" along with everything else on my computer as a networked drive.

I was trying to use Nero to access this drive, but it doesn't recognize it. Is there a way I can make it recognize that drive in Nero, or is it even possible?

Any other software known to do this?

I am using Win98SE.

Well, I think I've heard of software that can run in a client-server setup to provide remote access to a burner, but no, you shouldn't expect that to work. A burner mounted as a remote drive will only be usable as a CD-ROM.

If you really want to do the burn remotely, run Nero (or whatever) on the machine with the burner and just access the files over the network. Burn at low speed if you do that, though, and copying the files over would definitely be better.

4 things you can do.

1) Setup the remote with a UDF packet writing formatted
CDR or CDRW and map as a network drive.

2) run a macro system to auto burn files copied from a remote
computer to the local cdrw system's drive.

3) upgrade to an XP based network (with built in support for networked cdr)

4) browse amongst the various remote cdr file storage software solutions.

here at work we have mapped network drives and we use the drive letter pick data to burn in EZ CD Creator.

We haven't burned any coasters.

I have a similar setup at home - my daughter's digital pix are on one computer and the CDR/W burner is on the other. I turn on both computers, sit down at the computer with the burner and mount her hard drive as a network drive, and burn away. I usually burn at 6x or 4x and its a 100 Mbit network with only 2 computers so I don't worry much about the network being too slow to keep up with the CD burner. I have yet to make a coaster burning over the network.
