  2. Its make perfect rips but you have to kill your DVD drive, thats not a good trade.

  3. Rip to HDD first using Smart Ripper or DVD Decrypter.

How does this method "kill" your DVD drive? How is ripping a movie different from playing it normally?

  5. When you do it dirct from the drive, DVDx rips and converts the files on the DVD at the same time. I order to do this the drive is constantly having to stop & start so causes excessive wear and tear. Imagine if you were to contantly turn on and of an ordinary household light bulb you would soon blow it. Same principle here really. Best of using somthing like CladDVD or Smartripper and then using DVDx.\

  6. t1955feb: So you have made an SVCD which does FF/RW fine on your Philips? You would be the first person I read of to accomplish this. I hope so...

The important question is: How long is your SVCD in minutes?

  8. What program does DVDx use to encode? I've been using DVD2SVCD (I really like CCE over TPMPGenc) but it has problem with subtitles.

  9. DVDx does it's own encoding, it doesn't use any other program, it's a sort of a All-In-One program, and yes I agree that ripping from the DVD directly could shorten its life span, I also recommand you rip the DVD to the HDD, disable the ASPI in DVDx and encode from the HDD, just remember to also rip the IFO file of the movie.
