Error in Virtual Dub please help!

i am trying to convert mpeg1 to divx but i get a problem in virtualdub:
when i load an mpeg file to convert to divx, it goes to this parcing interleaved mpeg file process, and somewhere in the middle of the process it comes up with an error, saying: "mpeg import filterack synchronization error" then my mpeg1 doesnt load, can anyon tell me what this error is and how i can fix this, or there a better way to convert mpeg1 to divx?

You normally get that on Mpeg 2

Try TMPGEnc

File > Output to file > AVI > Codec etc

You can also load the mpeg into TMPGEnc > Mpeg Tools > Merge&Cut and make another copy with "MPEG 1 Video CD" "If its a mpeg 1 Video CD " and just stream another copy this way, without edit or source range.
