  1. I currently have a Pinnacle AVDV capture card which I have been using along with the studio version 7.11 software to capture dv from my sony trv25. and also some analogue captures from my vcr. I was just wondering if there is any other software application I can use along with this capture board instead of having to deal with studio 7.11 The quality I get is good I think( never tried anything else so I have nothing to compare it to). But I am sick of the illegal operations all the time, all the settings being greyed out so I can't change anything. I also got pinnacle express and that seems to work about the same. After reading all the messages in this forum I really don't see a whole lot mentioned about these two programs which has me wondering. Plus I just ordered a new computer, 2.8 ghz 1536 rdram with two 120 gig hd. It comes with the SoundBlaster Audigy Audio with 1394 card. Just wondering what this card will do for me. Anybody with any experience with this card? And ofcourse as luck would have it, the included software is Pinnacle Express. Any idea if there is any better capturing software that can be used with this card? Being able to try and capture uncompressed avi's possible ? Any info would be great. Thanks!

  2. Well so far I have tried just about everything. I personally have a Pinnacle PCTV capture card myself and found that I really don't like their software. The best bang for the buck is definatelly Intervideo's WinDVR 2.0. You will get acurate file sizes and pretty good looking results, with mpeg2 anyway for svcd. As far as AVI is concerned however you might want to check out cybermedia's Power VCR 2. YOu might want to think about checking out Virtual Dub as well, unfortunatelly due to my personal drivers I couldn't use it.....but you may.

    Hope this help's you out
We must be able to accept that wich we can not change.....and change that wich we can not accept...

  3. darc.zen, Do you know how to stop power vcr from breaking the files into 600 MB chunks?

Or a way to join them together, I prefer virtual dub, but cannot capture with it using the ATI TV Wonder?

  4. p[ersonally, I think that v-dub is the way to go. I tried a lot of trial versions of commercial software and found that iuVCR and v-dub were the two easiest and most stable to capture with.

  5. Well, i find the "goold ol' method" is still the best. V'dub (along with mpjeg (or huffyuv if you have a source of a high enough quality and lots of HD space) and usually, PCM sound) That so far has given me the best results. I have mainly tried all the others, and they drove me insane... On the fly encoding at lower resolutions don't look as good, some use proprietary formats/codecs, and of course, no VBR on the fly... Keep in mind lots of people have been there before you, and most of em use that way, maybe it's not for no reason.

IUVCR uses a weird codec that nothing i have can read. It's like a hybrid DV codec.

Also IUVCR cannot capture from DV to any codec, at least not for me.

I was hoping IUVCR could capture DV at 352x240

  7. ah, but it can. I had the same problems with iuVCR and in an unrelated thread got to ask someone about it.

In the video tab you need to click "capture resolution" and then in the dropdown at the top scroll to near the top of choices and choose "RGB24" now go back and set the capture resolution to "free" and adjust where you want it right below that.
