  1. I was taking a SMR movie and was wanting covert it to VCD. So I split the audio and video up using VirtualDub and was going to throw them together with TMPGE.. Which I have done in the past. The movie was split up into 2 parts.. The first part went smooth. So I done the 2nd part well when I hit start it says '"blah.avi" can not open or unsupported' Well I didnt think anything of it. I restarted my PC and tried it again.. and nope the same thing. I thought it was weird so I went ahead and tried the first part again to see what happens (the one that worked). And I got the same error message. So I got mad and d/loaded TMPGE again and threw it in a different directory.. And I still get the same error? Any ideas on what is going on with this thing?

Do you have the SMR codec installed?

When you split the movie into two segments, which program wrote the segments? Was it VirtualDub? Did you do both segments one right after the other?

Are any of your other programs on your computer that deal with media types (such as Media Player, DivX Player, etc.) saying they can't play media types they usually play?

Is BLAH.AVI the AVI you created from the original or is BLAH.AVI the original SMR AVI?

  3. Do you have the SMR codec installed? Yes

When you split the movie into two segments, which program wrote the segments? Was it VirtualDub? Did you do both segments one right after the other? Well I didnt actually split them into two.. I just ripped the audio from the avi using VD and when I was encoding it using TMPE to make it a VCD format I was just using the actual SMR file for the video part and using the VD rip for the audio.. Which I have done in the past and like I said the first part (first file) of the movie worked fine. When I done the 2nd file thats when I got the error. But after that I re-tried to first file just to see what was up and it gave me that error for that one as well. (did that make sense)

Are any of your other programs on your computer that deal with media types (such as Media Player, DivX Player, etc.) saying they can't play media types they usually play? Nope no problems there. They seem to work fine.

Is BLAH.AVI the AVI you created from the original or is BLAH.AVI the original SMR AVI? that would be the original smr avi

    thanks

First of all, you don't need the SMR (Angel potion).. Un-install it, it gives nothing but problems !! See Vdub home page on this...

You could encode the whole AVI without splitting, then use TMPGEnc again with Merge&Cut to cut the mpeg in half.

In Vdub you must mark start and end at key frames. Don't just cut anywhere, click the yellow key frame button forward or backwards before you mark the cut.

Before you cut up any AVI, you must also scan it for junk frames, and stream out another copy if it finds any..

Remove SMR and try again... If you remove SMR and get a codec error, use a codec pack like Nimo...
