  1. 1. Can someone please explain "BIN/CUE" and what it does exactly.

    2. If I would somehow come across a movie that someone had downloaded off the internet, could converting it to VCD or SVCD improve the quality of it?

a .bin is a binary image of a cd. the .cue is the file that lists the block size, and track info for the burning software. A .bin/.cue combo is burned to a blank cd by a program such as fireburner or cdrwin. The result is you have a CD that is identical to the original.

You'll never make a movie BETTER by converting it to VCD (mpeg-1) or SVCD (mpeg-2) because MPEG is a lossy compression codec.

  3. Dont quote me on this but:

    1) Bin is a image file that is most commonly associated with CDRwin (cd burning software). All CD burning software has the ability to read date and create a single image file from it. The Cue I believe stores information about that bin, like header info, etc. The Cue is not always neccessary

    2) No, Converting from one format to another does NOT improve quality to s certain degree. Basic rule of thumb is, you start with shit, you will end with shits. Now depending on framerate & other factors, it will play smoother in one form better than others, which would give the FALSEness(sp?) of appearing better. A crappy downloaded cam movie looks crappy no matter what format it is in.

    Hope that helps
