  2. I installed the encoder after I installed Jaguar. It works fine for me. I just choose File->Export->Movie to MPEG2. What "trick" do you have to do?

  4. Macnewbie, or anyone...can someone tell me how you got it to work?

  5. Oh, you just have the actual component file. Mine gets installed by installing DVD Studio Pro. To install the component file by hand, I hear you have to be logged in as root before trying to copy that file.

  6. I am also having trouble getting mpeg 2 encoder to work. Can someone explain to me? I have it in on my desktop but when I click on it says choose application, and mpeg 2 doesnt show up on the quicktime player export menu. I am a newbie to macs(running jaguar) and dont know much about component files or logged in as root.

    Thanks

Did you install QT Pro first?

I had a similar problem, and found somewhere in FCP literature that QT Pro needs to be installed first (before FCP or DVDSPro — I guess because these applications are so dependent on QT) I would suggest erasing/uninstalling all affected programs. Then, update to Quicktime Pro 6, Install FCP, then DVDSPro.

If you didn't do a "clean" install or archive and install for 10.2, that might be the problem as well. I just "updated" my system, and had applications crash like Value Jet that were rock solid previously. The "archive and install" option under the 10.2 install might be worth a try — I've read elsewhere of people having similar problems.

Also, I'm pretty sure that you encode mpeg2 from Quicktime. After I installed DVDSPro, "Export as Mpeg2" became an option (it wasn't there previous to installing DVDSPro). Good luck.

  8. First of all: Proceed at your own risk!.

    1. You need QT pro.
    2. Log into your mac as root.
    3. Copy the export component file to /System/Library/QuickTime/

For info on how to enable the root user go here:

  9. Oh, and after enabling the root user I suggest you disable it after doing what you need to do. That account has full system privileges (admin does not). That account allows you to delete/move/change stuff that you normally cannot do. If you were to goof something up while using that account, you could mess up your system and end up having to reinstall the OS.

  10. Thanks for the help guys.

But it still doesnt work. I enable root and logged in as root. I copied the mgeg compent file system/library/quicktime and still no dice. So I tried copying it into several other qt folders and that didnt do anything either.

I downloaded fcp v.1 but I cant install it because it says that it isnt supported by classic...

Is there anything else I can do?
