  1. I dl'ed a movie in AVI format. It worked fine using WMP. I dl'ed TMPGEnc. When I tried to encode on TMP, it only loaded the video and not the audio. I installed Nimo and it wouldn't accept my AVI's. I uninstalled Nimo. I tried to encode again but got the error message that "Tmpgenc has caused an error in MP43DMOD.DLL....... Tmpgenc will now close" I system restored my computer and then changed the priority of "DirectShow Multimedia File Reader" and once again got the error message, "Tmpgenc has caused an error in MP43DMOD.DLL....... Tmpgenc will now close". I reset the priority level. The AVI plays again on WMP. I re-install only the Audio Codecs from Nimo. I load up TMP and it loads the AVI video & audio and encodes the AVI. I load up WMP to play the MPEG and it gives me the option to send the error message to MS and then closes down. I loaded up ASFRecorder and got this error message when trying to play the MPEG, "Asfrecorder has caused an error in MMSWITCH.AX. Asfrecorder will now close.". I try DivX to play the file. No luck. I finally get to encode an AVI and now I can't play it. VCD's are nothing but a fantasy!

Your divx has ac3 audio, this is extremely common. If you follow the divx (avi) with ac3 to VCD guide the very first step tells you how to process your audio so that TMPGenc will accept it.

VCD's arent a fantasy, divx is just a non-standard format that requires some extra steps to cater to its highly unorthodox file format.

If you follow this guide I think you will be ok, http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/91588.php

  3. Is there any way to use TMPGEnc to encode and WMP to play the encoded file if it is AC3? I'm getting a message from WMP now saying that "The YV12 codec is required to play this file. To determine if this codec is available to download from the Web, click Web Help."
