when i have converted a divx to scvd and play it back on my dvd player it seems that where there isnt movement the image tends to be very blocky.. is there a filter or some setting which i can set to smooth the area.. and there isnt any blockiness on the divx..

If you're using Tmpgenc under Settings -> Quantanize matrix you should check "soften block noise" and make the 2 numbers below it 100. Under GOP select "detect scene change" and set motino search precision to "high quality"
if you still have problems, try lowering the video bit rate to 900kbps. Anything after 900kbps and I get nasty blocks. I play all my movies on my Dreamcast though.
