Copying DVD's...Surround sound good as original?

I'm getting ready to buy a dvd burner and had a question. A salesman at a local audio/video store told me that DVD's cannot be copied because of copywrite protection...which I'm sure is able to be bypassed. But he also said that even it you could get a round it, the Dolby Surround encoding could not be copied. Is this true?

I guess the easy way to ask is.....can I make an exact copy of a DVD that I rent?

False. Removing macrovision is easy.

False. The Dolby Surround encoding can be streamed into a AC3 file. You will need authoring software that supports AC3 to use it.

Yes you can but an "exact copy" can be more trouble than its worth. Most people just keep the core movie and drop the menus and extras.
