I'm getting ready to buy a dvd burner and had a question. A salesman at a local audio/video store told me that DVD's cannot be copied because of copywrite protection...which I'm sure is able to be bypassed. But he also said that even it you could get a round it, the Dolby Surround encoding could not be copied. Is this true?
I guess the easy way to ask is.....can I make an exact copy of a DVD that I rent?
Thanks,
remelad

False. Removing macrovision is easy.Originally Posted by remelad
False. The Dolby Surround encoding can be streamed into a AC3 file. You will need authoring software that supports AC3 to use it.Originally Posted by remelad
Yes you can but an "exact copy" can be more trouble than its worth. Most people just keep the core movie and drop the menus and extras.Originally Posted by remelad
Now if you want to learn how to do all these things you will need to catch up with some "lite" reading. Refer to the "how to" section on your left.
