You can use 32 up to 384kbps. 44.1khz is standard but since most players will play the 48khz it's a waste of time and quality to convert 48khz to 44.1khz...

I'd say most people probably use 160kbits, 190kbits, or 224kbits. Run some tests to see if you can hear much difference between these bitrates and just use as much as your willing to.
It's true that most dvd players can play 48kHz fine but there are definitely a number that won't. For widespread compatiblity its best to downsample to 44100kHz. 48kHz is obviously higher quality but I doubt you would really be able to hear a difference, especially on the typical home theatre setup. -
IŽam using DVD2SVCD and normaly set the Audio Bitrate to 160 kb/s Joint Stereo with gives me a good sound quality, the besweet decoder ios much better then the audio decoder in tmpgenc! so i must set 224 kb/s in tmpgenc to have the same quality.
But never go below 160 kb/s, because you can hear the differenc, and its not worth, to save the little space for the video file.AMD XP2000,ASUSA7V333.GF3 V8200 TI200,
