  1. I just downloaded a few movies in AVI format. When I went to encode using TMPGEnc, the audio portion of the movie did not show up in the "Audio File" section of "Select the Source file". When I had tried to encode before, I had sound without a picture. I went to VCDHelp.com and the site recommended Nimo. I dl'ed the file from the Nimo site & installed everything but the stuff that would cause problems. I went to encode and it wouldn't accept my AVI's. I went to make sure that the movie was playable on WMP and now WMP was saying that the movie that once did play on it, was unsupported. I uninstalled the Nimo pack, went to load up TMPEnc and got an error message saying that TMPEnc was causing a problem with file "mp43.dll". I had to system restore my computer to get TMPGEnc to work again and now it will load and accept an AVI video but no audio. I'm guessing that I need a certain codec but I have no idea which one and Nimo does not seem like an option anymore. Ideas?

  2. Open the AVI in virtualdub & check which codecs it uses

  3. I did that and within the video stream it says DivX but under Audio, it doesn't state a codec.

I am not of the opinion that installing the Nimo codec pack is always a good idea. For some there are no problems, but others can experience later conflicts. I prefer to install only the codecs that are absolutely necessary for my usage.

Depending on where you get your DivX, you should get some info with it that explains the codecs used and required for playback. In DivX you get usually get CBR/VBR/ABR MP3 audio, and less frequently AC3 or OGG. I suspect yours is AC3, so you could check out the relevant guide on this site to see whether you can extract the wav this way. For AC3 you could use Virtualdub and HeadAC3he. For OGG you could use Graphedit.

  5. I will try to re-install Nimo again. I've got another problem now. I changed the priority of "DirectShow Multimedia File Reader". The audio loaded up with it. However when I went to encode the AVI, I got an error message stating "Tmpgenc has caused an error in MP43DMOD.DLL....... Tmpgenc will now close". I'm spent.
