I'm running into a problem burning my MPEG-1s to VCD in widescreen format. I've done some searching, but the posts that I found have all been about the actual encoding of the MPEG's with TEMPGEnc which isn't my problem (either that or I completely missunderstood the posts) so if this has been covered previously, I apologize. I've used the search function to find answers to many of the questions that I have had in the past so please bear with me on this. I tried to figure it out, but I am running out of room on my hard drive and need to get these files to CD and reclaim the space for furture projects. I have the files in MPEG-1 format that are in the 16 x 9 widescreen format that playback in widescreen format using Windows Media Player on my computers. The problem is that when I burn them to VCD using Nero 5.5.9.9 (or earlier versions going back to 5.5.7.2) I'm losing the widescreen format. Can anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I'm sure that it can be done as I have a couple of VCDs in widescreen format, but I can't figure out how to get them.
TIA.

I'm a newbie so bare with me...
do your MPEG-1 videos on your hd already have the black borders? If not, then you are trying to add the borders am I correct? I ask because you probably already know this, but wouldn't you select "Full Screen (keep aspect ratio)" in the Video arrange Method field under the MPEG Settings tab.
I know there is a "No margin (keep aspect ratio)" for a movie that's widescreen and you want it to be fullscreen(no borders), so I would guess that there should be a selection like "Add margins or margins(keep aspect ration)".
I haven't done a widescreen to add margins, so I apologize if this is wrong. I'm learning as well...But I will add that I have been succesfully burning SVCDs in Nero 5.5.9.9 with widescreen and borders already on the source video.later,

Yes, my MPEG-1 files have the black borders on them. I don't need to modify the files themselves (at least I don't think I do), but need to be able to burn them without LOSING the Widescreen Aspect Ratio with Nero. What you describe sounds like settings in TEMPGEnc for encoding the files. If they are settings in Nero, I can't locate them.
Thanks anyway though.

oh ok I got you now, man I totally lost it on that previous post I was explaining the encoding process from an avi to mpeg-1, silly me...(didn't I mention I'm a newbie). LOL!
all I can think of is maybe the mpeg-1s were not encoded properly? so I dunno if that could be the problem (i'm pretty sure someone can input on that one)
you did follow this quide? http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm
and I don't think Nero has such settings since you are just burning it, I think it was encoded incorrectly, sorry I couldn't help ya man.
I'm looking forward to the other users opinions.later,
