  1. I am capturing video in virtualdub using Huffyuv compression.
Everytime the file reaches the size of 3.98 GB it stops and gives me this message:
    "AVIOutput: the parameter is incorrect"

3.98 is about 40 minutes into the film but I need it to go the full 100 minutes. The size of the file is always 3.98 GB when it is stopped. I have plenty of hard drive space. Please help

You can do one of two things. Either use the multiple segment function in VDub, then join the files together with the append function. Or, configure your hard drive to DMA. If you do not have XP, use the former. Let us know.
    Hello.

They may be using a smaller capture size like 352x240.

  6. Yes I am going for 352x240 but still why would this happen I dont want to have to join the files that wouldn't work anyway because one the error pops up the whole file is no good. It wont even open or play. I can record shorter clips but thats quite a hassle. Please if anyone knows why It would be great to know

under custom format(in virtual dub), are you using rgb 16bit, or rgb 24 bit?
sounds like maybe you should try YUY2 interleaved and with huffy try "predict median" if that doesn't work, try predict left, or predict grafdient. Remember if you are using a fat 32 partition you DO have a 4 GB file size limit.
    good luck

    No....

TO get around this limitation you MUST BE USING NTFS ( ie WinNt/2k/XP & have your drive formatted ntfs ). It has nothing to do with his format or other settings.

  11. Please elaborate, I am captuing video in the us mode NTSF is that what you mean, can you please explain better

  12. The maximum allowable filesize under FAT32 is 4GB. Any file larger than that will have an "incorrect parameter". It is a limitation of the operating system.

This question has probably been answered once a week or more for the last year or longer. Use the SEARCH function.

  13. OK, just straighten out some things here :

NTSC (not NTSF) is the US videostandard and has absolutely nothing to do with NTFS, which is a Harddisk drive format like FAT32.

So, if you are using for ex. windows98, you will have your harddisk formatted under FAT32 standard, which means you simply cannot create any file larger than 4GB.

If you are using windows NT/2000/XP, then you can choose to have your harddisk formatted under NTFS standard, which will allow you to create any size file you want.

    Its as easy as that.

Why don't you capture to a multisegmented file? This will automatically create a new file when the other ones reached it limit.

You don't have to join these as the program thinks they one big file linked together in a sequence.

AVI 2.0 or Open DML OpenAVI as its called

    See http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=103690&highlight=

But even on windows 2000 NTFS the maximum file size limit has been fixed so you can create files greater than 2GB but as far as I am aware the native avi file size limt is still approximatly 2GB.

Your best to use segmented files and these will be loaded up correctly in an application which supports the open avi standard.

Avi 1.0 supports a file size of 2Gb maximum because it only supports "32 bit integers to store offsets within the file"

Avi 2.0 uses 64 bit integer offsets so supports a large file size.

The problem here is not every editing / playback / capture program supports Avi version 2.0

This is in the FAQ or tutorials sections I think and should be common knowledge but the same question keeps reoccuring!!!!!
