Does any one know how to make TMPGEnc keep the aspect ratio when you cut a movie.
I have a movie that is in letterbox format (wide screen) and when I cut it in half so I can put it on 2 VCDs the result is a full screen movie and distorted.
If more info is needed please let me know?
thanks

Here's what I do after loading the clip and opening MPEG tools.
Use the Clip Frame option in Advanced settings.
If its letterbox AVI I think you can only use Fullscreen, else you will lose half the movie off each side. Clipping a letterbox MPEG you can crop the top and bottom enough so you get more picture without making skinny people
Then select Source range and slide about half way along, play the clip until you get a nice scene cut. Hit Mark out then OK... thats the first CD.
Double click the clip in the Tools window, then go back to Source Range, the first settings should still be there, and hit Mark in, slide the thing to the end and click Mark Out.... theres the second bit... works for me anyways..
Hope this helps

When you cut, are you altering the type to MPEG-1 Video-CD? If you are, then it's another case for the X-Files. 8)

If you're using the Project Wizard, on step 3/5 select 'Other Settings'. Under the 'Advanced' tab, there is a setting called 'Video Arrange Method'. If you choose 'Full Screen', your movie will be all squished together so everything fits on the screen. If you choose 'Center', it will cut off the left and right sides of the movie. The best setting is 'Full Screen (keep aspect ratio)', which will letterbox your movie.
(If you're not using the Wizard, this can be found by clicking the 'Setting' button at the bottom right) -

The default is "full screen > keep aspect ratio" there is no need to use crop, the black borders with be there on a widescreen movie, which can be zoomed out with a Widescreen TV.

In Tmpeg if you want to preserve letterboxing. Go to the advanced tab in settings and set the Source Aspect Ratio to 16:9 and set the Video Arrange Method to Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio.
