  1. I've been using VirtualDub to capture some stuff from VHS to AVI files. I use the Huffyuv codec and everything works just fine. But then i want to edit out the commercials from the AVI, so i highlight the commercials in VirtualDub and delete them. But then when i save the AVI after editing, it becomes corrupted and media player gives me error messages when i play it.

What do i do? Someone plz help me!!!

After you saved your edited video, reload your edited video into Virtual Dub and see if it has any junk frames. If none are present, see if your video will run in another player, Power DVD.

I capture the same way. what I do is to frame serve with avisynth using the trim command, you can trim all the commercials out. just check all the frame numbers in virtual dub(where the commercials begin and end) then enter them in your avisynth script. then you can frame serve to what ever app you're using to encode to. virtual dub or tmeg

  4. I would like to know the correct procedure for editing out sections (for example, commercials) using VirtualDub.

When I tried it was confusing. How do I set VirtualDub so that I can see the video I am editing? What settings do I use to save? I read the How To but still had trouble so some tips would be appreciated.

(I thought this was appropriate here because it may be helpful in troubleshooting the problem which started this thread)

start an avisynth script on the avi file you want to encode(trusting you have avisynth setup correctly)load the script into virtual dub, using the slider, navigate to where the program starts, note the frame # enter it in your script for example: trim(0,8976)+trim(9245,12345) and so on. just note all the segments you want to keep. then avisynth will treat the file as one file with no commercial(or minus segments you want cut out) then just frame serve into virtual dub or tmeg and boom you're there!

avisynth script can be a little daunting at first, but after you learn them and get to using them you'll thank the author and use them.
you'll be amazed at what avisynth can do!!
one of the best little programs I know!!

If your edited AVI is over 2gigs, media player will give you an error when you play it back. It should still play fine if you open it in virtualdub. You can try saving it as a segmented AVI, and play the sections, or instead of saving the AVI just frameserve it out to tmpgenc or whatever you are using.

  10. 8) On my Windows XP there is Movie Maker. I import the vidio I want, it shows all the frames. Then I can delete the ones I don't want and save. You can view it from there in case you want to change anything. Then convert to whatever type you want to use. So far I've had great luck here.
