  1. Please, I need help to capture "civil war" on PBS so my daughter can view it later. I have the ATI rage AIW 128 pro video card. I have the huffy codec installed along with virtual dub, Vegas Video, and power VCR.
The ati capture doesn't want to play on the computer so I didn't even try to burn a cdrw to see if it would play on my apex 1100. While I have messed with all the programs a little, I need down and dirty quick. not much time for testing. I don't care about Initial file size as long as the method can be unassisted. There is the problem of the two gig limit. I also see virtual dub has something about multi segment capture and that would be wonderful. Thought I would post this first and also venture through the postings. Thanks all!

  2. install directx 8.1b
    -reboot
install the ATI video drivers, then the ATI capture drivers (get them from AIW radeon or AIW radeon 7500) from support.ati.com
    -reboot
    install ATI mmc 7.7.0.1
    -reboot

start capturing. MPEG-1 I-frame only can be done on a 300Mhz computer, and just use the bitrate calculator on the 'tools' page (on the left) to determine the bitrate to use to get the right filesize.

if you have a 900+ mhz computer, you can probably do realtime SVCD. copy the 'SVCD' preset, change the motion estimation to 90% or so, (not quite 100%) and 2.24 Mbit CBR. that file is about 44min per 80min CD.

if you have NTFS drives, it's important to go to the capture drive and change the security permissions of the "ATI MMC" and subfolders to "full control" to "everyone"

  3. I downloaded mmc 7.7 before but it didn't run right . I'll try it again because maybe it's a different version. I only have fat32 disks. My system is a p4 1.7 with a 4 drive raid array. I use it to multi track record and very seldom do I even come close to 2 gigs per instrument or voice. It has been a while but I htink mmc7.7 didn't like xp very much. We will see. Thanks very much and I will post my outcome. Thanks

  4. 7.7.0.1 is better
you need the capture AND video drivers, but the radeon ones will work fine with an aiw 128 pro (it's the same rage theater chip on all of them)

  5. Yeah, I'm downloading those now.
I checked your other posts, you really know this video card!
Any way to get the openGL to work? Again I'm foggy with what downloading the ATI driver crashes and what my work around was.
