Picture quality is poor on playback

I've learned how to get most everything down now except that my vidio doesn't look clear on my TV now from the DVD playback. Is there a way I can record a CD to be better? I have a new Sony DVD that plays all formats. The PC is a Sony RX-651. I burn with Nero. E mail me any ideas,
