help fixing the sound

i was wondering if anyone knows a good technique to help improve the sound on movies that you download off kazaa. Some of the ones i have are screeners and the volume is way to loud and it makes peoples voices sound all funny cause it's up too loud. also some of them have a hissing noise in them...what program can i use to fix this and what are the best settings for that program.

Try Gold Wave. Load the original video into it. If it is too loud, go to Effects-->Volume and lower it until it is at an acceptable range. If it has a hiss, load it and go to Effects-->Filter-->Noise reduction. Hope this helps.
