I'd like to know what the best vhs tape is for recording to it, and then capturing it to the computer. I dont trust capturing on the computer straight from tv, cause it can drop frames, the computer can freeze/crash, the video file could become corrupt, etc. Basically, I'd like to be able to try multiple times if anything goes wrong with the capture the first time, and since recording live from tv is a one time shot, I dont trust doing it that way. So whats the best vhs tape I can get (brand, etc.) that wont look horrible when recorded, and wont have (too much of) those flickering white specs/lines?

If you can afford it, you should look into getting a JVC S-VHS VCR. Then use S-VHS tapes.
Kicks the sh*t out of regular VHS for quality. -
Ditto what Toogy said.
A trick I tried when I first tried the digital video stuff, was to capture to both SVHS and real-time with my computer. The SVHS would be my back-up if I somehow messed up the capture.
Also, I would advice you to test your capture card with various settings and see what your results are. Just try 30 second or 1 minute caps and then play them back. Come back and ask questions concerning settings used and get some help and feedback. I'm out!!!!
