I am looking to buy a 32x or 40x burner. I need recommendations. Can anyone tell me what I should look for in regards to buffer underrun protection and anything else I should look for? Also, I would like for it to be something I can buy in a store, so I don't have to worry about returns if need be. Thanks for any help!
EDIT: I would also like the burner to be able to overburn CDs.

Lite-On
$53.99 at dell and it's awesome. As good as a plextor and half the price. -
Plextor, there is nothing better, that lasts as long ! 8) That's more compatible with authoring manufacturers, that comes with a better guarantee with backup service, that can be bought local.
That is the more expensive, but you get what you pay for -
Plextor for shear quality.... but personally I have a LiteOn and I love it... check pricewatch.com and your bound to find one cheap. Mine came from newegg.com (great company!)

great prices $32 & up for cdrw and for dvd roms
im satisfied with my dvd rom i got from them -
TDK VeloCD, can be bought in any retail store, same drive as the plextor except it comes with much better software and looks a whole lot cooler.

lite-on burners are great. they make 48x ones too, but 40x's do fine considering 48x cdrs are expensive. I had a 40x. Got it for 58 bucks a few months ago. Recently upgraded but I still think lite-ons are the best for 40x burners. Support overburn and buffer underrun protection.

I have a lite-on as well, and it's awesome. Never created a coaster ever since I've had it. Never had any compatibility problems either. From various 74min cd-r's to 99min. The best burner I've ever had!! -
LiteOn or Plextor.. although some of the old fashioned build quality we
have come to expect from Plextor seems to be slipping.
Plextor still slightly beats the Liteon for reduction of induced errors
at high speed. -
Plextor is the best but it all depends on how much you have to spend.
You are going to pay twice the price for the same 40X than you would a lite-on and I swear I have never had a problem with my lite-on, I myself see no reason to fork over the extra for the plex. I use all brands of cd's even generic, overburn, Nero, DJ, Clone, it does it all. Best $50 (from dell) I ever spent.
