  1. Hello,

I've recently got a copy of an official japanese vcd from a Madonna concert. I tried to play it on my dvd player (pioneer dv-444-s) but my tv system will only play PAL format and the vcd is NTSC. I've tried to use tmpgenc on pc but the results were bad:

I tried to grab the dat file from the video and convert it to a PAL mpeg and then burn it has vcd. Being a live show with lots of dancers and stuff, the motion in the image will always seem pixelated durinmg high movement scenes (when I use CBR at 1150). I then tryed to convert it using VBR (minimum 1600/average 2500/maximum 3500) and the image looks just perfect BUT the vcd will pop and skip after some minutes of playback.

So here I am with an high quality copy of an official japanese release and I don know what to do with it. Is there any simple way of converting my dat file to a pal file without loosing quality? Can anyone help? I can both use pcs or macintosh computers.

    Thank you!

  2. You mentioned using a PC but assuming you also have a mac try DVD Film Transformer. It can convert from PAL to NTSC and vise versa.

You can download a 7day trial here: http://homepage.mac.com/DVD_SP_Helper/Commerical/DFT.html

It's a export component for QuickTime.

My DV-333 deos pal->ntsc conversion. I would check out the setting and the back of the unit to make sure yours is set to PAL and not AUTO.

  7. I just tried to export the dat file from my ntsc vcd with dvd film transformer and I get nothing, only a quicktime palyer with no sound or video. I've tried to export an mpeg video with it and the same happened. Is this because of the fact that this is a non-registered version? Do I have to register first?

  8. Oh and I'd like to add that I can convert the dat to mpeg quite easily with VCDGEAR, but if the source file is ntsc the output file will remain ntsc. Any way to change the output file in VCDGEAR? maybe with all these infos you guys can help me out!

  10. i've read my dvd manual and it says that if the tv only reads pal then then ntsc footage may not be reproduced well. I've warned in the beginging that my tv is PAL I dont know why you say it will still play them. Anyway, I hope it does.

Some pioneers had a toggle switch on the back for pal/auto/ntsc for output.... obviously yours does not.

  13. Mine does not. You switch from auto to ntsc or pal on the front. I've done that. the vcd plays in color but the image keeps jumping.
