    DVD NTSC (MPEG-2 720x480 29.97fps CQ 65, Layer-2 48000Hz 384kbps)

    Super Video-CD NTSC (MPEG-2 480x480 29.97fps CBR 2520kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)

You can rename the .vob to .mpg However if you wish to change it to a different size etc, you can also load it into TMPGEnc Browse > (*.*) and experiment with the full screen > keep aspect ration and the crop function

Incorrect. A VOB can be anything from an MPEG-1 at 352x240
up to an MPEG-2 at 720x576. The audio will differ depending on
what sound format/number of channels used.

However if you wish to change it to a different size etc, you can also load it into TMPGEnc Browse > (*.*) and experiment with the full screen > keep aspect ration and the crop function
This re-encodes the file and is a waste of hours if you simply want
    to have a mpeg-2 file.

You don't say what you want this mpeg-2 for? If you simply want
to import it into another program you do not have to change it. Just
load WinDVD (a DVD video player) into windows and then many
applications will be able to read the vob's directly.

There is a proggy called rempeg2 that is easy to use but many
    use Tmpgenc and DVD2AVI.

Simply load Tmpgenc and choose file>mpeg tools. Choose demultiplex (not simple multiplex) on the tab and browse for your vob file. Make sure
the "files of type" box is changed to "all files". Highlight your vob and
click on add. The type of video file will be identified. Click on run and
you will have 1 video file and maybe several audio files. You may
have to process the audio file further. Load DVD2AVI v1.76 and select
the original vob. Under audio, choose decode. Choose Save project as. A wave file will be created. Open up tmpgenc, choose file>mpeg tools. Choose remultiplex. Add the video from you created 1st with tmpgenc. Add the sound you created with DVD2AVI. CHoose run. You now should
have a working mpeg-2 video with sound.

If all you want to do is convert a vob into mpg2,you could use Tmpeg's "mpeg tools" option. I do it all the time to encode to SVCD since I don't like to frameserve.

  5. wulf109, that is exactly what I said above.. but with a bit more detail
in case stuff789 does not know how to use mpeg tools. It is polite
to at least skim previous replies before posting.

No comment, you do it what ever way you want. This guy has made his first post, and I am quite sure he is looking for something simple at this stage.

I guess you never noticed the bit about re-sizing etc, if you can let us know how this is done without re-encoding that would be good

I did not mean to sound like I was having a go at you. Your
answer imo was more complicated and would take uneeded time
    and resources.

Well I do miss things from time to time but in this case the only
person to mention re-sizing was you. Anyhow, even rempeg2 does
a better (& faster) job of resizing than tmpgenc. Personally I use avisynth.

To convert .VOB to MPEG2 is simple as 123

    1. Copy the file XXX.VOB to your HD .
    2. Change the file name to XXX.mpg .
    3. Play or edit the movie.
NO need for Softwares or Hardwares, that’s All to it, simple ?!.
