  1. I am wondering if there is a way to convert a VCD to an output to VHS tape, or, conversely, to play a VCD in a DVD, while recording it to VCR/VHS Tape.

Also, if necessary, I have the prdouced MPEG1's of the actual VCD, could these be used to make vhs output? Duh, my editor is playing stupid and saying he thinks that the res will be too low..which makes no sense if they play as good quality vcd on dvd player?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

  2. You have two options, play the VCD on a DVD player and connect the DVD player to the VCR. Record the VCD on the VCR.
Two, if you have a video out card in your PC, play the file and connect the VCR to the PC. Play the mpeg file from the PC and record it on your VCR.

  3. A 3rd option exists: purchase a vga to video converter. These range
in price from $50 up to several hundred for professional high
resolution converters. The main benifit is that you can plug it in
to any computer and then display or record on TV / VCR.

TV itself has a low resolution compared to computer monitors
so even a cheap video card with a TV out (also with a Vivo or video
in, video out card) you should be able to record a decent quality.

  4. Your editor is right on one thing - the resolution will not be high - it probably won't look as good as a typical VHS recording - depends on the encoding quality.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

I know, it sounds really easy, but in my search here and other forums, I keep seeing people saying they cannot accomplish a successful dub...simply playing in the dvd and recording with the vcr...I can't see it being harder than dubbing vhs to vhs, is it? Does it depend on the DVD?

Or, one better, anyone know of a conversion service that DOES convert VCD to VHS...they all seem to do the other way around...

    Thanks alot guys!

  6. Skittelsen is right, thats what I did when I had to have a final vhs copy of video projects for school, just burn a vcd, stick it in a dvd player, connect the rca cables from the dvd player to the vcr (like you would for vcr to vcr hookup, just match the colors, yellow to yellow, white to white, etc.), then play the vcd, and record the vhs. It works, cause the vcds you burn dont have macrovision protection like dvds do.

  8. Alrighty! So now I went and got myself a good DVD player to copy my vcd's from....and I asume I would hook it up:

DVD to VCR to TV....tried it, but yes, the quality is poor...

And! The DVD manual says don't doit the above way for lack of quality becomes obvious, instead to hook up the DVD directly to TV,and also VCR to TV..is this right?

Thanks for your patience with a know-nothing like me
